On better days, Neko eschews pants.

On better days, Neko eschews pants.

I saw Neko Case live last week and I have a few thoughts to offer. Or proffer. As someone who has loved and listened to Neko (both as a solo artist and as a member of the New Pornographers) for years, her live shows are consistently a struggle. It is hard to listen to her unbelievable voice while trying to filter out all her uninformed, inane musings between songs. It has come to my attention, after standing quite close to her at the show that:

  • She’s kinda plump, in that I don’t take care of my body kind of way
  • Her hair is disgusting, which may have been a product of the road, but jeez
  • There is too much make-up type clump on her face

Man, I really thought she was sexy, but I guess I was wrong. The show was solid, though she favors traditional country covers over her stronger solo material live, and I will go again next time she is in town, but I lost something precious last Thursday night.

Saw her with the Pornographers in Kalamazoo in 2005. Breat show, but you’re absolutely right, she really embraces that hobo-fem chic.

Also, AC Newman appears much older than he probably should be and has lots of freckles on his face.

man you’re crazy. I saw her on wednesday of that week and she looked great (weird dress) and her hair is amazing. The show was nearly flawless, save the stupid transparency artists…
