“This Just In!” Except the Opposite

A bunch of us saw the Chicago Theater catch on (Arcade) Fire, what was it, about a month ago? Hopefully in the future these posts will come in a bit more timely manner.

Anyway, it was good. Quirken, Frazer, the good Dr. and I were at the Saturday show. They played nearly all of Neon Bible and most of the regulars from Funeral. I don’t think they played anything unreleased at this show, and no Bowie covers either, which I guess is testament to them having too much great original material to be able to make room for anything else, which I think is a good thing.

Anyone else still questioning AF’s longevity? Having had my fair share of troubles keeping past bands together — and I’m talking about 4 pieces at the most — I can’t help but doubt that their lineup with remain consistent for years to come. But there are a whole bunch of blood ties and bindings by law that will no doubt make dissolution a bit more difficult, so it should be interesting to watch.

Not sure about you guys, but I’m ready for another record…

Interesting point about the longevity. I could definitely see some changes in the near future, but they do have the strong core of blood/legal relations.

I’d personally like to see an on-stage showdown between Win and Richard Reed Perry, both donning helmets and drumming it out until one drops dead.

Speaking of longevity or lack thereof, is it just me or is Broken Social Scene pretty much dead? I had heard rumors of past on-stage conflicts, which is understandable when dealing with such a large group. Now with individual careers and side projects taking off, it seems like BSS will become a mere shell of what it used to be, perhaps occasionally coming together to perform “Lover’s Spit” and that new Feist song.
