iTunes to Radiohead, Radiohead back to iTunes: Our way or the highway.
Because iTunes won’t allow Radiohead to sell their new record as a full album only (as opposed to being able to buy one song at a time), the band will not offer it up via iTunes at all.
Radiohead is one of the few remaining bands that still has the power to send me to the store to purchase an actual CD, so I’m not sure this is a huge deal. Who wants a DRM-laden new Radiohead record anyway? It’s possible EMI, the band’s label, would offer the album DRM-free, but regardless, this seems like yet another example of Apple’s growing ego-driven tendency not to budge on anything whatsoever.
First NBC, now Radiohead. I wonder if this is just the start of a growing trend. I’m sure Apple hopes it isn’t, but it can only be a good thing, in my opinion.
