Whiney Jill stuck in a rut?
Woe is Jill Sobule. Poor gal whines a bit in her latest tune, picking on record companies, out-of-style execs, plus her own indecisiveness about how to release her new music, and what angles she should be taking that will (we assume) get her back on another big soundtrack.
All the while she doesn’t revel in the fact that she’s suddenly become quite powerful, what with her guest column at the WSJ’s allthingsd.com, plus a new column coming up in Yahoo! Music.
Come on Jill. You seem to have the digital music thing figured out. Enjoy it and celebrate it. Keep reminding people that you are almost kind-of like Liz Phair and Lisa Loeb. Or else fewer people will read your columns than read this blog.

Pete, there was no whine. Just a middle-aged cheer.
Plus, the allthingsd.com column was basically to start conversation among non-music industry types.
I’m having fun.
And, I bet you have never heard my music other than the “hit”
but fun column never the less.
xo, jill
well look at that… thanks for stopping by.
I loved those first three albums of hers I had when I was younger. (I still find myself singing Margaret and Bitter for some reason- those melodies are around me a lot, I guess)
Haven’t been following her career much but I know she played at Martyrs down the street from my house last year. I regretted not going.
I hadn’t thought about her in awhile, then I got this Fountains of Wayne bootleg from a live show at a Hogs ‘n Honies or some ridiculous place that must have been recorded in the mid ’90s, and she pops up to sing “All the Young Dudes” and some other stuff.
And I was all “Oh yeah, Jill Sobule! That song about the trains was good.” (That’s right, I just went album deep on y’all.)
Thanks for stopping by indeed, Jill. And impressive blog monitoring skills. I can only assume you’re a first time, Google alert inspired reader, but we sure do hope you come back.
And for the record, I still listen to the Clueless soundtrack every so often and stop whatever I’m doing whenever the movie is on TBS or TNT, which is about every two weeks.

I know it is either sad, conceited (a word that I have not used since Jr. High), or too tempting that I google myself. But, it is also a bit dangerous.
Anyway, check out mychannel.com and go on the Don Was site. I am playing in a furniture outlet store. Really.
Oh, and also go on Harry Shearer’s and find, “No Cooler for Scooter”. He does a mean Cheney.
