New Radiohead record, In Rainbows, available for download from band’s website on 10/10

I’m too excited to give you any more details than those contained in the title of this post, but let’s be honest, that’s really all you need to know, right?
Alright fine, the details are:
1) The band is releasing the record themselves (as opposed to via their label).
2) You get to choose how much you want to pay for the download (very curious to see how this works).
3) There’s a nice $81 option that not only secures you the immediate download, but also gets you the new record on CD, another album’s worth of additional songs, and vinyl versions of both, along with some nice Radiohead-like packaging (see picture above). The only downside is that the non-downloadable goods won’t be available until December.

I love everything about this.
the nytimes has a blurb about this today, with a string of user comments: http://news.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/10/02/an-album-that-costs-what-you-want-it-to/
when i read this, i immediately thought, yes i’ll pay for that. and then i thought i’d most likely pay $10 for the 10-song album. the question is, why? am i already conditioned to think 99 cents a song? or does that just seem fair to me? how much would you pay (without thinking too much about it)?
