I’m in love!

No, it is not some siren songstress like St. Vincent or Feist, though God knows I do love them. It’s Vampire Weekend, and their new cleverly titled record “Vampire Weekend”. Equal parts Paul Simon, Post-ska punk and The Police, but somehow better because of the mash-up, Vampire Weekend does a phenomenal job of keeping the listener interested with unique stops, starts and staccato, strange and complex song structures and myriad instrumentation.
On a first listen I like the record. Ten turns through, I think it is really something special. Those in some kind of a rush should turn their attention to tracks 2 (Oxford Comma), 9 (Wolcott) and 10 (The Kids Don’t Stand a Chance), which represent the record quite well, and to quote my close friend and fellow bloggert, RevDave, rock.
Do your spouse a favor and spin this record over a chilled bottle of gewurztraminer.

very well put. first time i listened i liked it too. now i am forever devoted. #4 reminded KC and I of paul simon almost instantly. very good driving music…
Damn, I really wanted to write the glowing review about this.
This was a fantastic surprise for me because I honestly hate the band name. It’s one of those that turns me off right away.
I took a listen of this one wine buzzed night and very much enjoyed it. However, it was the early hungover mornings in Vegas where I found it’s true impact. There may be no better “getting ready” music.
Then I asked everyone for the rest of the day “who gives a fuck about an Oxford comma?”. Who, indeed?
Agreed, anytime in the last month someone has asked me, “Heard anything good lately” I’ve responded “Vampire Weeked!” so quickly that it almost seems like a reflex.
True, it’s the Paul Simon-esque stuff that drew me in, but I must admit that I like “Boston” for its Billy Joel nods.
we had better all get advance tix for the 12/11 show at schuba’s, no?
