Been a long time since they rock and rolled

(And the prize for hackiest post title goes to…)

The Big Led Zeppelin reunion show/Ahmet Ertegun tribute thing was last night.

Imagine my surprise when I heard they had covered my old ring tone…

I know, it’s a bunch of old dudes (even wee Jason Bonham is 42) playing hits from before I was born. But I love me some Zeppelin. This isn’t the Stones, who tour every few years. This isn’t the Police, who had a nice run of hits in the ’80s. It’s ZEPPELIN. As my friend Ryan von Karvola once said: “The Beatles are the best band ever, but Zeppelin is the best ROCK band ever.”

And Rocked they did, from the looks of the video. I didn’t know if Plant’s voice could still hack it, but he nails the big Kashmir “eeeeeeeeeeeeeew” and sounds pretty great all around. That answered one of my big questions about the reunion, and the other was “What about Bonham?” He sounds fine, though. Better than fine, actually. Like, really really good.

Set list: Good Times Bad Times, Ramble On, Black Dog, In My Time Of Dying, For Your Life, Trampled Under Foot, Nobody’s Fault But Mine, No Quarter, Since I’ve Been Loving You, Dazed and Confused, Stairway To Heaven, The Song Remains the Same, Misty Mountain Hop, Kashmir, Whole Lotta Love, Rock and Roll

Solid. I’ll be looking for video of “Misty Mountain Hop” for sure.

Rumors of a world tour persist. Also, the early scuttlebutt is that they’ll headline one night of Bonaroo, with Metallica getting another headlining slot. We shall see.

I’m pretty sure they’re sampling a Puff Daddy song there (or at least thats what he called himself at the time) Don’t feel too bad though. It’s apparently a common misconception.

Mathew Broderick In Godzilla rulez as hard as San Dimas High School Football.

Zep headlining Bonnaroo makes me sick to my stomach.
