RTP oh 7 Top 10 - Pete W
Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga - Spoon
-released July 10
Catchy stuff from this southern band. A comeback, even.
No Shouts No Calls - Electrelane
-released April 30
Thx to Benom for turning me onto this record. Easy-listening fun.
American Doll Posse - Tori Amos
-released May 1
Tori has always been fearless and creative. And she gets a high-five for having the best reference to MILFs in ‘07.
Sky Blue Sky - Wilco
-released May 15
I give this band credit for not imploding, which they could have easily done while their leader battled depression and substance abuse. Instead, they pulled it together, got their leader sober, and released a solid record.
Yours to Keep - Albert Hammond, Jr.
-released March 6 (released Oct. 9. ‘06 in UK)
Did everyone else enjoy the new Strokes record, I mean the solo Albert Hammond record, as much as me? Dangerous assumption: the other Strokes must be a bit PO’d, given that Al reveals himself as the brains behind this outfit with his solo effort.
Memory Almost Full - Paul McCartney
-released June 5
Already wrote about this once before, but it bears repeating: Macca made a strong comeback with this offering.
Wincing the Night Away - The Shins
-released January 23
I really don’t care if they’ve become pitchmen for the Zune. This is a terrific power pop record in a year when there were several good power pop releases.
In Rainbows - Radiohead
-released October 10
Jonny Greenwood can get as much emotion and depth from 2-and-3 note guitar riffs as anyone walking the planet today. I much prefer Yorke’s R&B stylings on this record to his angry punk side from Kid A, et al.
Live at Massey Hall 1971 - Neil Young
-released March 13
Maybe it’s a cheat to list a live concert from ‘71, especially since this was bootlegged before it’s official release. But it was beyond special to hear Neil sing some of his classic songs for practically the first time in such a clear, strong, and young voice. The nasal delivery was still there, but Neil circa ‘71 didn’t have the shake that his voice has become known for over the years. And besides, some other RTPers listed a few ‘06 releases in their ‘07 top 10s.
Bottom Half - Umphrey’s McGee
-released April 3
A nice surprise from the South Bend jam band. These guys are musically gifted and they put it all together on this record. The first half of this double album is stellar. Still, don’t know why they decided to release the outtakes that fill up the 2nd part of this release.
Either this one or Neil’s Massey Hall release are my favorite of the year.
Honorable Mention
Street Symphony-the Subdudes
Icky Thump - White Stripes
The Con - Tegan and Sara
In Our Bedroom After the War - Stars
Drastic Fantastic - KT Tunstall
When the Deer Wore Blue - Figurines
Neon Bible - The Arcade Fire
Traffic and Weather - Fountains of Wayne

Amen to the Albert Hammond Jr pick. I’m kind of regretting not including it on my list.
wow is this a late comment, but I was just reviewing this list & wated to say 2 things:
1- I am more excited about the next Albert Hammond Jr. release than I am for anything else I know of coming out this year.
2- Umphree’s McGee played in my apartment back in college after we invited them back to, umm, relax, after a show in Madison. It almost got me evicted, but the story was definitely worth it.
