Fill in the Blank: Bono, Chris Martin, __________

The last person I would expect to fill that blank is Arcade Fire’s Win Butler. Via the Fork, Butler took to his blog recently to voice his choice re: the two lefty front-runners in this year’s poli-race:
I am watching Hillary Clinton in her victory speech in new Hampshire…they just threw a bunch of college kids behind her, and had her talk about student loans, and had her daughter come out for a long awkward hug…does anyone actually buy it? Surely young people are too media savvy to be fooled by this kind of shit.
do we live in a democracy so we can just keep electing the same families? Barack is the first candidate in my lifetime to strip some of this bullshit away, and I just hope we don’t blow this chance. man if we miss this opportunity we don’t deserve it…how bad does it have to get?
fuck!!!!!!!!!
I can’t possibly express how sad I am to have to say this to the front man of a band that I love and respect so much, but it simply has to be said — no one (read: me) gives a shit about your political opinions, Win, much like we couldn’t care less what your favorite color is, as long as you keep making music we love. Here’s hoping the next time we see your band perform you’re not wearing some strange colored tape on your fingers and you don’t spend half the show talking about Africa. Music please, that’s all.
Thanks in advance.

[…] Here’s another interesting post I read today by RockTransferProtocol […]
While I would normally agree with you on this matter Benom, I agree too much with Win. While he won’t likely change any minds, maybe some 18 year old schmuck with no political attention span hits the site and looks up the Jr Senator from Illinois.
This election is just too important and will likely be too close. Any help is appreciated.
Go candidate who I’m rooting for!
Also, what’s all this “we” business, Win? Last I checked you’re Canadian.
But even though I don’t really care what his opinion is, I totally support his right to voice it and use his celebrity status as a platform if he thinks it’s that important. If the nut job who dodges traffic on Irving Park every few weeks with the “Impeach Cheney” sign can try to foist his opinion on me, I see no reason for Win not to.
Say what you want Win, but don’t get pissy when we tune you out.
Is he Canadian? I thought he was originally from Texas.
Although I don’t really give a crap what Win thinks either, I don’t see a problem with him writing his opinion in a blog. Just because he’s a celebrity doesn’t mean he has to keep his opinion to himself anymore than the next guy/gal who feels compelled to do so. Until he takes time out of his performances to speak on the matter, I don’t think its fair to compare him to Bono. Don’t forget, there are some artist who do product endorsements during their concerts. Then we’d have a real problem.
I go back and forth on the issue of celebrities voicing their opinions, but then once we became celebrity rock bloggers, I totally knew what it felt like.
Too bad Win Butler is a pissy son of a bitch. I love his music, but after hearing him whine on stage, I don’t really pay attention to his non-singing voice anymore.
I think you’re right about Texas, Greedo. It’s the rest of them that are Canucks.
Show me an 18 year old who votes in the primaries, and I’ll show you an 18 year old who is probably informed enough not to be swayed by crying candidates or their speechtime backdrops, let alone some texarcanuck troubadour.
i just can’t wait to hear the outcry when i officially announce RTP’s endorsment of Ron Paul.
