Colbert interviews R.E.M. from atop superstool

And it’s pretty hilarious.

The performance isn’t too shabby either, but I have to say, Accelerate is taking a bit longer than usual for a new R.E.M. release to grow on me. Maybe it’s the lack of mandolin…

Now listening, and loving: a macro review

We don’t post this kind of stuff often enough, so I dare speak on behalf of the rest of RTP when I promise we will try to do so more often. After all, some people (person?) actually come here for guidance on what’s new and hot, so it only makes sense that we oblige them […]

Jill’s Next Record

Our favorite one-hit pop/folkie Jill Sobule is earning raves for her new release - and to my knowledge, nobody has even heard it yet.
Why?
Because she conducted a successful fundraising effort through her website and found a way to self-produce it through online donations from fans.
Way to go Jill.

2008 Music: “2007 can suck it”

This post comes a little later in the year than I planned but nonetheless there are still many shiny new digital files to look forward to this year. A short list of some anticipated and noteworthy albums of 2008:

I have these bell-bottoms I used to wear in like 1996 that I loved…

Is anyone else as excited about this as I am?

New music to bone to

That’s right. It’s official. Portishead’s long awaited follow up to 1997’s self-titled and oft-boned to release will hit the musicsphere on April 14th care of Island Records. And I’m so excited I just might send out valentines a full three weeks early.
A secret prize for the first RTPer to “find” this puppy ahead of its […]

An open letter to Loney, Dear: A review

Dear Loney, Dear,
How did you manage to avoid me throughout the entirety of 2007? After all, your latest offering, Loney, Noir, was released way back in February.
It’s not like you’re on some crappy label, or what would be even more understandable, no label at all. Did I have Sub Pop-flavored blinders on all year? Was […]

RTP oh 7 Top 10 - Pete W

Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga - Spoon

Catchy stuff from this southern band. A comeback, even.
No Shouts No Calls - Electrelane

Thx to Benom for turning me onto this record. Easy-listening fun.
American Doll Posse - Tori Amos

Tori has always been fearless and creative. And she gets a high-five for having the […]

Disappointments and Guilty Pleasures

Small Sins’ eponymous debut album of 2006 was ‘one pleasant surprise’, as Benom might say. I still go back to it frequently. It is groovy, an easy listen that is fun and enjoyable.
Which is why I’m disappointed by their 2007 release (officially launched in late September). The band still loves synthesizers, but their sophomore […]

Peter Morén and his album of future rockommercial songs.

We all fell in love with Peter Bjorn and John’s last album Writer’s Block and why shouldn’t we? Remember that scene in Back to the Future where Marty is playing “Johnny B Goode” and Marvin Berry is calling his cousin Chuck to let him hear what will eventually be that great new sound he’s […]
