Review: Caribou, “Andorra”
I’m so obsessed with this record that I shouldn’t be the one reviewing it. So I won’t. I’ll just say this instead: track four, “She’s the One,” is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard, and track eight’s (”Irene”) panning and fading just about put me in a permanent state of acidic flashbackery.
These […]
Fuck That Noise
I’ll pass on the J M&M’s. I know this’ll make some of you think I’m an oaf, but the closest I’ve ever come to liking a Morrisey song is the thought, “Oh yeah, I’ve heard this one before. It doesn’t quite suck.”
Gimme the Hold Steady opening for Art Brut.
Well I guess it’s the […]
New Dates: Jesus, Mary & Morrissey
The West Coast arm of RTP drew the Jesus and Mary Chain long straw, with a couple shows scheduled at the Filmore in late October. Morrissey also announced some new dates with a seductive pose from a patch of grass somewhere in the UK, none of which include Chicago.
I Wish Daft Punk Were My Parents
And huge thanks to mixmag for explaining what’s in their ship:
Click here for a larger image, and read on for a detailed explanation of what everything is. Oh what We Said Things would have given for even a fraction of this kind of rig…

“The show revolves around Ableton Live software on custom made super-computers, […]

Review: Stars, In Our Bedroom After the War
I hate to keep mentioning Pitchfork in every RTP review, but after seeing this pre-cursor to their review of Stars’ latest offering, I couldn’t resist:
“Not out in record stores until late September, the Canadian indie pop band and its label Arts & Crafts wisely made its theatrical new album available for digital sales before it […]
Eddie and George Sitting in a [Censored] Tree, @-!-#-%-I-N-G
I know I’ve mentioned on this blog before that Eddie Vedder was perhaps singlehandedly responsible for me picking up a guitar. Note to guitar students: it’s very difficult to learn how to play Pearl Jam songs on the guitar by continually pausing their MTV Unplugged performance and trying to shape your fingers like Stone Gossard’s.
How […]
DA-worthy?
A reader recently wrote in to RTP asking:
“As Lollapalooza descends upon us, I have to wonder, is Perry Ferrell a douchebag? He’s clearly very media savvy, and quite the little business man. He loves Chicago and loves Mayor Daley, and I like that about him. The question is: do you think he should be allowed […]
Just in time to be late
Two weeks after the fact, I have decided to post a l’il review of my most hotly anticipated Pitchfork performance:
Now, in all fairness, this was billed as “Stephen Malkmus” without any mention of The Jicks, but I just assumed he’d bring along the back up band for a show in front of 15000+ people. Even […]
Wicker Park Fest
Saturday’s post-5pm lineup is definitely worth checking out. Rev Dave and I, and perhaps the good Doctor as well, will be kicking tomorrow off with a Jameson rocks right around 3pm, then heading out in time to catch Maritime at 5:30, followed by Man Man and The Thermals at 7:45 and 9:00 respectively. Full schedule […]
